When did AMSOIL first begin producing synthetic lubricants?
AMSOIL produced its first synthetic motor oil in 1972 and has continued since them to expand its product line.
Can you use synthetic oil products in new cars right away or do they require a break in period with petroleum?
There is no need for a petroleum break-in period for vehicles. The Dodge Viper and Chevrolet Corvette are filled with synthetic oil at the factory.
Take the opportunity to change to AMSOIL at the first oil change and see the difference for yourself.
Does engine sludge come loose when switching to synthetic motor oil and plug the oil filter and passageways?
No! AMSOIL synthetic oil does not cause clogged oil filters or passageways, regardless of mileage. Sludge is caused by poor quality oil and poor maintenance practices. The sludge would build up by these poor practices and eventually plug oil filters and passageways when excessive.
Will using AMSOIL or other synthetic oils cause my engine to leak oil?
In modern vehicles, there is no risk of leakage. Modern seals are fully compatible with AMSOIL motor oil which keeps them pliable to prevent leakage.
I have a Ford powerstroke diesel. Which AMSOIL motor oil should be used?
The recommended oil is either AMSOIL Series 3000 Synthetic 5W-30 Heavy-Duty Diesel Oil (HDD) or AMSOIL Synthetic 15W-40 Heavy-Duty Diesel and Marine Motor Oil (AME). HDD is preferred for better performance in cold weather, improved fuel economy, and mixed diesel and gasoline engine fleets. HDD has greater film strength and improved anti-wear additives giving better protection than conventional 15W-40 mineral-based oils. AME is a premium oil meeting many manufacturers' recommendations for viscosity. It is superior to competitive 15W-40 oils and costs less than HDD.
In my new 4-stroke snowmobile, can I use AMSOIL AFF 0W-40?
Yes! Hard-working 4-stroke engines (4-stroke boat motors, 4-cycle snowmobiles, personal watercraft, ATV's, lawn equipment etc.) are the perfect application for AMSOIL AFF 0W-40.
Can I use AMSOIL AFF 0W-40 in my car or truck?
AFF is most suited for small recreational 4-stroke engines, but can be used in cars or trucks. We recommend you review the auto oils first before choosing AFF for your car or truck. AFF is the perfect choice for 4-Stroke outboards, ATVs, lawn equipment, snow blowers etc.
Conventional oils can be recycled. Is this so for AMSOIL motor oils?
Yes! AMSOIL synthetic oils can be recycled and are very useful for furnaces that burn waste oils.
What are AMSOIL synthetic motor oils?
Synthetic motor oils are made from base stocks with special additives. Their unique properties make them more fuel efficient and longer lasting and give better overall performance than petroleum oils.
What types of synthetic base oil fluids does AMSOIL use?
AMSOIL uses many high-performance synthetic base oils, including polyalphaolefin (PAO). Each oil base or additive has its own properties which engineers combine to best fit particular applictions (racing, extreme temperature, etc.). AMSOIL INC. is consistently committed to produce products delivering the ultimate performance benefits.
What are synthetic blend motor oils?
Synthetic Blend Motor Oils are a combination of synthetic fluids and petroleum oils which form a year-round motor oil which performs like synthetic lubricants.
Will all engines work with AMSOIL motor oils?
Yes. AMSOIL Motor Oils are excellent for use in any mechanically sound gasoline or diesel fueled engine.
Is my warranty on my new car still in effect if I use AMSOIL motor oils?
Yes! AMSOIL motor oils meet the current API service requirements which are the specifications manufacturers’ warranties are based on. AMSOIL is perfect to use in any new vehicle without affecting the warranty.)
Will AMSOIL motor oils work well year-round?
Low and high temperatures are both handled better by synthetic oils. Every jet engine uses synthetic oil. Synthetic oils have extremely low pour points and flow readily at very low temperatures causing easier winter starting and significantly less engine wear. No conventional motor oil compares to the overall protection of AMSOIL Synthetic Motor Oils at extremely high temperatures.
Is mixing petroleum motor oils and synthetic motor oils dangerous to engines?
There is no danger mixing synthetic motor oils with any petroleum motor oils. Mixing oils is not generally recommended. The benefit of the synthetic oil is completely lost and oil should be changed at the usual petroleum oil interval of 3,000 miles.
Why is it acceptable to wait until 25,000 miles/1 year to change AMSOIL motor oils?
Synthetic motor oils do not break down easily and are much more resistant to heat effects than petroleum oils making them stable and capable of performing their function for a much longer time.
Is oil consumption reduced when using AMSOIL motor oils?
Yes. AMSOIL Motor Oils can reduce oil consumption in correctly functioning engines. Oil use was decreased as much as 42% under test conditions. AMSOIL Motor Oils cannot cure oil use caused by mechanical problems.
What is there a correct procedure for switching to AMSOIL motor oils?
There are no special requirements. For older/high-mileage vehicles, it may be advisable to use AMSOIL Engine Flush first toensure a clean engine free of contaminants to prevent any effect on the service life of AMSOIL Motor Oils. A new AMSOIL Absolute Efficiency Oil Filter (EaO) should be installed every time you change oil.
Is it useful to add oil additives or after market products to AMSOIL motor oils?
No, they are not necessary! The strict quality control procedures for producting AMSOIL products ensure superior lubrication performance.
